Recycled Papers

With more and more demand for environmentally friendly papers nowadays, Papico has an extensive range of recycled papers that can meet any requirements with a full range of high grade 50% and 100% uncoated recycled papers and boards.

Paper recycling is a complex process that requires a number of steps. It starts by taking waste paper, either from pre-consumer or post-consumer, and mixes it with a combination of water and chemicals in order to break the paper down. After this, it is chopped and heated which breaks the paper down into cellulose strands. The resultant mixture is called pulp. From here, the pulp is strained to remove any foreign materials such as glue and plastic, and then it is cleaned, deinked and bleached ready to be made into paper again. The same paper fibres can be recycled a finite number of times as the cellulose strands decrease in length through each cycle of this process.

Recycling is becoming much more popular due to the environmental impact on felling trees and the process of creating paper from wood. As well as reducing the amount of trees needed in a given time frame, recycling also reduces energy costs, reduces the sizes of landfills and both directly and indirectly reduces the amount of air and water pollution.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Recycling 1 short ton of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7 thousand gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity – enough energy to power the average American home for six months.
